first thing i think off is heat, if you know how to take the cover off have a look at the CPU fan and the power unit fan
i had a fault like this and it turned out to be a power unit fault. |

fairly sure its not a heat issue as it sometimes does it first thing in the morning before its even booted. But I have checked all the fans are working and clean.
How would I test for a psu fault? |

I dont know how you would test a psu fault, i just knew it was mine as it kept shutting off and it was the only thing i thought it could be after looking around the pc fourms.
Have you put any extra kit in there asking for more power ? |

You'd say, "Rich, can I borrow your PSU tester if I promise to post it back when I've finished with it?"
Looks like: I presume everything is seated firmly and the power cable to the mobo is securely latched? |

no extra kit at all. Any recomendations on replacement psu, make, model etc.
this one's only 6 months old and came with the case, mind you it was real cheap so I guess you get what you pay for. |

Well, they range from £6 upwards, what's your budget?
Presume it's not a mental gaming rig requiring 650W all day long? |

Not sure anything can test for intermittents Gary.
You could plug the PSU in to it and wiggle all the wires around, see if any lights flicker or go out on the tester? I'll bung it in the post on Monday if you want to borrow it my good man. |
