Default engine loseing power

Hi All
I hope someone can help with a problem that i am having with my rover 75 conni 2ltr diesel tourer (2002).
The problem i have is, as i am driving along the engines power goes just as if you have taken youre foot of the pedal, and if you put the pedal down harder nothing happens, no warning lights come on, and the engine is still running, but the car slows down to about 20 mph then all at once power will kick back in for a while, then it could happen again.
it doesn't do it all the time. but it seems to happen when the car has warmed up.
i have just had a service (oil change, and fuel/air/oil filters).
sometimes if you try to pull away quck putting your foot down this can happen for a few seconds. so have to be easy on the pedal.
What can i do and where to start looking?
Thanks in advance.

Hi donnyboy. Welcome along to the forum.
How well do you know your engine?
As Sufolk boy says it could be your MAF. It lives under the lip of the air filter behind the oil filler cap.
Try this page http://tuning-diesels.com/75Zt/R75maf.htm

This is a page from one of our members Rover Ron who is very knowledgeable.

Regards. Steve.

i thought that might be the next question its is under the air filter cover next to the oil filler.remove the big cover over the engine x 3 10mm bolts.then take of the cover over the air filter from memory x 4 allen bolts x2 are on top x 2 are at the back you need a long allen key to undo them.take off oil filler cap then remove cover.you will then see a plug on the engine next to the oil filler unplug it .ps replace oil filler cap asap or stuff some rag in it you dont want to drop anythink down there belive mehope fully your car will run better if it does its new maf time

It will run yes. Not optimal as the engine ECU goes into fall back mode thinking the MAF is dead. But if your MAF is faulty... It will run better..

Sorry Sufolk boy. Didn't mean to step on your keys
