In between family and Xmas stuff I managed to find a moment to fit the new experimental Powerflex yellow Mount to my ZT Auto this afternoon .

Not travelled very far , but can tell straight away its far better than my Non OEM Mondeo mount .

Initial feelings are that its pretty good.
Most of my vibrations are :
1. when holding the auto in gear with the brake on.
this is now negligible.

2.When pulling away hard , especially when the motor is cold and over fueling a bit, it was a bit on the rough side then.
This also is negligible and very smooth.

Can't really compare to the OEM one I took off months ago, due to the time lapsed.

But it more how this one actually performs ,and at the moment this Yellow bush is very smooth and forgiving .

So a great improvement over my knackered Mondeo mount. Well would hope so..
The Ford ( non OEM) has proved very poor its only been on for 3 months or so and its torn the webs to bits and worn away the front and rear buffers.probably why it was only 22 quids new .

Will keep an eye on this new yellow 'un and see how it goes for wear and tear, and see if it retains its smoothness ? .

Its got a long way to go to beat the MGR mount as mine was only split a tiny bit on 110k miles .

I suppose without a bond line there will always be some stress that will tend to manifest itself as movement between the frame and the Yellow bush ? and cause wear , but we will see.

Sorry no pics as its was a bit cold .. But we all know what it looks like ? :xmas-smiley-004:..

just imagine it bolted in..

I've left the under tray off so will take a pic over Xmas ( probably ) ! .

Happy Xmas All

Chris

Hi Chris.
Thank you for your initial first findings on the Yellow modifed diesel powerflex mount and your help in road testing it much appreciated as you say we only need a photo i suppose if it does not perform and starts chewing its self up again, good news that if seems smoother but even the red diesel one did at the start and some are still ok time will tell us for sure cheers Arctic

Default Lower Engine Mounts

At ARCTICS request I will add my findings on the Chinese lower mount.
I think it is unquestionably the best choice for any 75 which has 'normal' amounts of vibration because it has inbuilt buffering which will prolong its life compared to the Original Rover type and it is cheaper!
Owners may find the comparisons below interesting. where I have measured the amount of movement each type of lower mount allows before hitting the stops.
Genuine Rover: 12mm to front, 15mm to rear
Mondeo mount: large end 3mm front,3mm rear PLUS small end 2mm front
3mm rear. i.e. total of 5mm to front, 6mm to rear but, the
Mondeo Mount can have a solid rear buffer or a hollow one
The hollow one will allow further deflection.
Chinese mount: 4mm to front, 4mm to rear.
A startling difference between the Rover and the Chinese type!
I have had to remove the Chiinese mount from my 'rough idle diesel' because I could actually feel it banging against the stops on tickover
refitting the Rover type has improved matters.
I have returned my unused red Powerflex type and am awaiting delivery of the latest type when it has been approved.
I would also add that my lower mount lines up perfectly between the engine and the chassis.

Default New Batch of mountings

Hi all

We received our new batch of mountings last week and they have now got a genuine part number stamped on them so i would assume that xpart are now going to start supplying them. The part number on them is KKH101372 for the 1.8s.

Can't see them making one for diesels as their models are all petrol aren't they ?
I can see that forces/vibrations in line with the mount are absorbed by the bush but in the other direction is it not acting on the bolt, not the bush ?

Update on the yellow mounts from powerflex which they are going to use to replace the Red/pink one previousley used before it became unreliable due to chewing up this could have been down to the wishbone bushes not being in good condition ie spilt or perished, either way they got enough complaints to take a look at the problem.

I was sent two of the yellow modifed bushes to replace red ones i had fitted these are and have in part been tested for a month now and i have had a report sent to me from one of the members whom as one fitted to his car, quick report from Chris below appreciated.

Hi Steve,

Was just thinking about that yesterday , but it has been rather non crawling under weather wise recently .LOL..

But will have a peer under in the next day or 2 as I have a few days off
( weather permitting), Just to see if its still in 1 piece .

If PFlex's .. man wants a comment now , mine would be :
(although it's a great improvement on a duff OEM ).
On my auto , it could really be about 5%-10% more flexible. as I have found that there is still vibration coming through on the colder mornings .

Just after the initial fitting I noticed this, but then this vibration did usually disappear after a few miles.

Now after these recent very cold spells I have noticed that this vibration is not disappearing so readily.

Initially I was not sure if this was just the car overfueling a bit at the startup.

But I have noticed recently that the vibration doesn't go so readily when the temperature is around Zero, so the bush material must be affected slightly by the colder temps , but then I would expect the OEM to be similarly
harder during cold spells.

I will switch off my synergy for a short while as well just to see it that has any affect on anything.

Hope this will tide you over until my next episode..

take care

Chris
Again thanks Chris/Arctic.

I forwarded this to James at powerflex as he was asking for any reports on the lower engine mount yellow one modified as they want to send them out the reply from him is below, it seems he or those at powerflex are looking in on our reports which in my opinion is a good thing as it helps them know how we as customers of the powerflex products feel if i get any more info from them i will post for you to read.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the update.

I think with this report and the one on the forum, I have confidence that the new design is working effectively and without too much vibration.

We have also done some durability testing ourselves and we are confident of its reliability.

Unfortunately we cannot wait any longer to re-release this part as we have a huge amount of back orders that have been accumulating whilst we carried out the testing.

This is now the part that we will be supplying as the PFF63-610.

Kind Regards

James Bourn ~ Sales Manager

Steve, the reply from Powerflex seems to place more importance on servicing their back orders than waiting for more conclusive results on the suitability of the product.

I'll stick to OEM thanks.
