Diesel auto with a 160 remap is the way to go , good all round performance

Can someone work out why the govt charge more for taxing an auto - by that much? The mpg is perhaps slightly higher, but not by much, and my guess would be emissions would be better as the box is always in the 'right' gear for the speed. That is a big difference in tax rates!

Emissions are higher, being in the right gear at the right time is one thing, but the right gear needs road conditions 'felt' by the box before it is changed along wig the accompanying revs/ labouring. Whereas manual can be done with both sight and experience

We've got both, and quite a big difference between manual and auto diesels when it comes to fuel consumption, and that is why the emissions are higher.

Shame because I find the auto a far better drive.

I'd put the loss of efficiency down to the torque convertor in the auto.
