Even though the light comes on I'd try another battery. One of the buttons may have been pressed while it was stuck there and although there's enough power for the light may not be producing a strong enough signal. Should still work in the door lock though, doesn't need anything electronic for that.

Not sure about the effects of the dryer but i have had a key that appeared to be working fine when buttons were pressed but i could never get it to work on the car no natter how many times i coded it to the car.
Appears the key had “lost” its ability to generate its frequency so it can happen. |

Cheers yes the little brick is in the fob , now wonder if the dogs had pressed the hazard switch when they jumped out and the batery is flat or worse that the ecu is flooded with all the heavy rain we had , use my saloon every day but not the estate that often

The transponder has nothing to do with the central locking. All it does is speak to the immobiliser and allow the car to be started.

As mentioned, its the circut board in the key is tge thing that generates the locking etc .
The small transponder chip in the key allows the ignition system to operate. |
