Default head unit kill switch

Weve found a slight gremlin in the Double din nav unit using Igo8 - if you set it to navigate to somewhere while your off the map (eg in a carpark) it can cause the nav system to freeze - the only way to sort this oput it to switch the ignition off then back on to reboot the system.

What I want to do is fit a simple push switch under the dash to break the power and therefore reset the unit without having to turn the ignition off (so it can be done on the move)

What I need to know is what wire would need to be broken to simulate the igniton being turned off ?

If anyone else has a better idea im open to them

carl

The cable in pin 7 of the power ISO connector, in the original wiring it is Light Green/White.

The red wire on the back of the head unit will be the ignition wire so a switch on this will be the same as turning the key off

This is a software glitch and, personally, I would try and sort it out at a software level first.

Which version of iGo are you using and which headunit?

Thats unusual to have more than one red wire on the power side of the iso block. There are only normally 3 wires red ,yellow, black,Have you got a picture of the back of the head unit ?

I forgot that the iso block pulls to bits - there is only one on the power bit

Its Igo8 and its one of radio guys double din MG7 units - the software just freezes and turning it off is the only thing you can do

Yes, pin 7 is ignition live, Light Green/White is the colour of the cable in the original car loom, but head unit or adapter lead cable colours can be anything - as you have found!

As CDTi has said, it may be be a good idea to see if you can sort out the problem, you are treating the symptom, rather than the cause.

Im thinking the cause is the unit being lost so to speak

Does anyone else have Igo8 on the Radioguy unit ? if so can they go somewhere not on the map - a supermarket car park for example - then set the nav for somewhere youve never been before (must be in memory or it wont happen) - and see if the nav locks up

On a side not the Becker unit in the ZS sometimes does the same thing if you start a journey off road

This happend to me when trying to navigate to Manchester Airport..

I put in the post code and it went ga ga !..

It wouldn't exit or restart etc so had to use my iPhone & Co Pilot instead..

Had to wait till I got home and unplug the power for a while !..

I can see the sense in a discreet kill switch within easy access for such emergencies !...
