Default Bodywork/Sill Repairs

Hello 75/ZT enthusiasts!

Apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong place - I wasn't sure if there was a better place for bodywork related posts?

We have recently purchased a Rover 75 Tourer and it needs some attention to the sills so I was hoping to ask for a little advice.

The MOT advisory information says:
• Nearside Rear Cab or chassis corroded within 30cm of a mounting, but not seriously affecting overall security jacking point (6.2.2 (d) (i))
• Offside Rear Cab or chassis corroded within 30cm of a mounting, but not seriously affecting overall security jacking point (6.2.2 (d) (i))

As far as I can see from many posts here this seems to be the common problem area (particularly on a tourer) around the rear jacking points and toward the rear arches.

Assuming this is a common issue - is this just going to be sill work or are we looking at a much bigger problem? Are these the kinds of jobs that are best left to Rover specialist garages (assuming we can locate one) or is this a job for a bodyshop?

Any advice much appreciated, and also any recommendations for people who could take on this kind of work in the Wakefield/West Yorkshire area would be very welcome! (Or just tell me to stop faffing and book it in at the local Halfords Autocentre!)

Thanks for reading, and best regards,
Gavin.

A chap called Tom Hobbs hand-produces sill repair panels for the Rover 75, a rear repair panel is £67 with P&P or £120 a pair. They are superb quality.

He will do the welding himself but I understand he has a very long waiting list. I got a local automotive welder to fit mine, he did a fantastic job, you can't even see where it was welded in and he charged me £70 (for one side).

Tom Hobbs' website- https://www.tjhobbs.com/

Tom's repair panels on ebay- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284325093...MAAOSwvSJfXSJi

As your issues are advisory only and not serious at this stage, you may be able to simply halt any further decline yourself with abrasion, rust converter, stonechip etc.

It was the offside rear sill that needed replacing on mine, and to pre-empt the nearside one needing the same a little further down the line I undertook an afternoon of preventative maintenance on it which, fingers crossed, should be enough for the foreseeable future.

Thanks for the replies guys - really appreciate it.

You wouldn't guess those panels weren't OEM!

Another thumbs-up for Mr Hobbs, has done a cracking job on my rear sills.
