Is yours petrol or diesel?
On the note of gearboxes, I though the ZF gearbox was supposed to be good?
What mileage had yours done before the failure on the gearbox?

My 75 is a 1.8 non turbo, I rescued the car from a scrapyard over five years ago with about 11 careful owners behind it. It's never been my intention to scrap the car and I wanted to make it loved again, I put new cylinders and pistons in it, new bearing shells etc and it runs like a dream, just the box failure at just over 130,000 miles. I reckon all those careful owners before me didn't use it right. It will be moving on this year with a fresh box, 46,000 miles one owner box, the 5000 miles engine and many replaced items, it's not ready to be killed yet. It's been over five years since it was sent to be scrapped and it's still around. It deserves nothing but the best.

Good grief, that is terrible, things like this will kill the cars, it’s about time someone came up with an alternative to this abysmal system.

My replacement is going to be an LUK one.

I think Brian always recommended Luk.

The one I'm saving for is going to be LUK as well, but from what I've read, they have gone the same way as other manufactures, out sourcing production to countries with lower labour costs, which ultimately reduces quality greatly.

I'm worried that even after spending good money on a "quality" product, and having it fitted by a quality garage that the possibility of failure of the hydraulics is a high and real probability.

I'm not sure what the answer is.

This might be the final thing for me with my car.

I was looking at the concentric clutch on the bmw, it's made far sturdier than the cheap trash we have to put up with, probably one of the constraints made when Mgr was under their command.

I would love to know whether it would be possible to adapt it to fit our cars without too much modification.

Anyone know if the Landrover slaves suffer the same failure rate or are they better made?

The clutch fitted to mine was LUK with a low millage second hand DMF. It was all done correctly by Trikey, who knows what he's doing so not the fitter, and the master failed at 13 months and 3000 miles, so out of warrantee with the slave following on a few months later. I thought that was bad.

I have posted the saga in the past but Big Russ is a good friend and he advised me that a lot of his customers have seen these issues (the same as being posted now) with the hydraulics giving out in no time at all. His advice was get rid of it because it will go again after it was fixed and do not buy a manual. Having done a lot and spending loads on the car I was reluctant too but the cost of a potentially another clutch was prohibitive.

I'm shocked.
I really don't know what to do now.
I always thought LUK where the best in clutches, this was the make I intended to get fitted, but after all I've spent on the car, to have this being yet another thing nagging away at the back of my mind, I don't think I can cope.
