Default thank you to some members

I would like to thank Stocktake, Roverbarmy, Trikey and Mhoo7.
Thank you very much, your advice on changing the actuator has been really appreciated.

Having taken all your advice on removing and refitting I took the plunge and shut the drivers door. Being a scaredy cat I did open the tail gate first.

The door shut fine, locked with the remote and has unlocked with the remote, locked and unlocked with the key and opened from the inside.

I am so relived. It is not an easy job and if like me you don't know how to do it, it is even worse.

I may try and get another actuator to have as a spare but fir now, this car is fixed.

Here's a tip Ian, and of course anyone else doing this job; close the locking catch with the door still open a few times using a pen or small screwdriver, and then you can check it unlocks as it should without the hassle of trying to get back in if it fails.
