I suspect an insurance policy, probably just playing it safe. If they were £100 then fair enough... I'd go for it, but £300 is too much to spend unless I need to.

For comparison, you're lucky to get 40k out of a Mondeo one.
That is exactly what Andy Willi told me 2 years ago when he did my clutch - he said he had seen 2 failed DMF's in 1200 clutch changes on our cars .

Default Clutch Kit

Hi Ravinder,

Sorry to read about your recent premature clutch failure.
I own two R75 Mk 1 manual diesels (estate 87k & saloon 76k).
Just out of interest, as I have recently purchased a new Borg & Beck slave cylinder for future installation, what make was your failed slave cylinder ?

Thanks in advance,

Cliff J.

At one time DMGRS had said in various posts that he would no longer supply LuK CSC for the CDT due to reliability issues and would only sell the Borg & Beck CSC.

I see that he no longer supplies B&B but Luk, despite the B&B CSC being available on the market.

Would be useful to know the reason for this switch back to Luk.

The one that failed recently is the metal slave cylinder which I believe is borg and beck one.

Ok, I've just checked the paperwork, the DMF was changed previously.

On 1st June 2012 at 90105 miles the previous owner had fitted one Luk clutch kit, one Luk DMF and one Luk slave cylinder, plus some STC9158 gear oil which all came to £1286.94 including labour and VAT.

Presumably the gear oil was for topping up the oil in the gearbox while in there? Hadn't thought about that.

So, after only 70k miles, I shouldn't need to replace the DMF. Phew, some good news at last.

The mechanic should still check the DMF for bearing play and rotational movement in order to confirm that it does not need replacing when doing the clutch.

Borg and Beck no longer exist as a company Only the name .The name is owned by Redline who actually import a lot of parts from the Far East .Form your own conclusion

I have the conclusion!

Borg & Beck has not existed since 2006. It is Firstline that owns the B&B name.

My email was really just a polite hint to DMGRS that it may help members to know why he stopped selling B&B CSC's.

Absolutely, thanks. Just got to keep everything crossed that it's good.
