Hi,
I notice that you have used the terms reconditioned and rebuilt. Which did you buy? The reason for asking is that "rebuilt" has a specific definition whereas "reconditioned" doesn't and would cover a secondhand unit with parts fixed if necessary to make it serviceable. It's worth you being clear on this and doing a bit of reading before taking the next step. As others have said, contact your card provider because debit cards in the Visa scheme do provide some protection similarly to credit cards. Also, as others have said, contact trading standards but also speak to your local CAB for advice. They may help you take the matter to court as a small claim. Is the company concerned one with the engine-uk website? |

Ok, lets try something a little constructive! Firstly there has been some good advice from others about claiming back the cash from the bank. Don't take any **** from the bank, they don't understand clawback and often don't want to know. Secondly, are you a member of the RAC or AA? They may well be able to help with legal advice. Thirdly, keep everything in writing, don't accept promises made over the phone, ask for something emailed or faxed to you to state exactly what it is they are going to do. Lastly, ask if there is a member on here who is both qualified and able to do a full independent technical appraisal of the work, this might be needed if it comes to court. Other than that, good luck!

Also check both your Car and House Insurance Policies, as you may have Legal cover on them!

I understand its relatively inexpensive to pursue such claims through the small claims Court ?
This story is scandalous surely they don't want any bad publicity?? |

I also note the company are not members of any trade association, such as the FER:
http://www.fer.co.uk/default.asp That to me would set alarm bells ringing! |

I feel for you in some ways, but if I am spending that much brass:
1) I would deal with somebody I knew, or: 2) At least deal with somebody local who has a website that is written in a reasonable attempt at English. |
