Might be worth getting one of those beam thingymajigs so the vehicle is lifted in parallel. They usually slot into the hole left when the lifting saddle is removed.

Evening Kev,
"Beam thingymajigs" What are they?
Are they the device that MOT testers use on their lifts to lift the front and back of the car to check the front and rear wheels?
If so can you buy them for trolley jacks?

Quite heavy and solid.

I would definitely recommend.
Thanks for your thoughts Maninder.
I think I'll go for a 3 Tonne jack.

Mine doesn't go under newer cars, they need to be lifted a couple of inches then it's fine - not an issue on the 75 but maybe something worth considering if you've got other cars.

They do replacement gas struts for our cars too.

Happy shopping.
Thanks for your thoughts Andy.
I think I'll go for a 3 Tonne trolley jack from Halfords if I can buy one at "Trade" price. Plus any problems they are only 9 miles away.

£160 normal and £128 on trade.
Thanks for your thoughts Josh.
How do I convince Halfords to sell me one at "Trade" price?

Nothing wrong with any of the jacks listed but what you spend depends on your budget .
One of my Jacks at home is a National Machinery 3 tonne trolley jack which I use in my garage and while not breaking the bank it is of a decent quality

Definitely one to think about if I can't convince Halfords that I'm "Trade".

Perhaps I should speak to them again but I'm kind of used to it but I don't like it.

Others seem to speak highly of them and there may always be one dud but if I did not pipe up I don't think that would be fair to others, after all, we recommend.

Seem to have gone up a bit since I bought one but I'm happy with it.

Goes up and down smoothly and have always felt very safe with it. It is heavy though.
Thanks for your thoughts Andrew.

I got one of the SGS jacks and after two or three uses one of the retaining bolts fell out. They replaced it with another one but that one (which I still have) is either up or it's down! In other words, it does not have a controlled descent unless you are "super" careful and strong enough to grip the handle with both hands to "feather" it. I have seen a few complaints on other forums with the same problem.

Just seen a 3 tonne Halfords jack on ebay here
Collection only though - but near me if you want to arrange something?
