Still snowing, now 15cm deep, and no sign of the binmen, so looks like some form filling, box ticking, self important, risk assessing, Hi Viz jacket clad jobsworth has ordered them back to the safety of the depot.

Mind how you go.

It would be nice if I had some clothes which were two sizes too big

Our bin men often get put onto snow clearing and other public safety work when there's a lot of snow about.

The other week they continued collections but it was slow going as the dustcarts were getting stuck on untreated minor roads and pavements were like ice rinks.

I saw their cart nearby at 0715, and they are normally here by 0845, so I presume they called it a day some time ago.

I will now have to carry out a full risk assessment to ascertain if it is safe for me to go to the rear gate and bring the bin back in again.

In the meantime the TV dish is now snowed up and the signal has failed.

Update - now working again after offending snow dislodged with a long extending pole.

Being virtually at sea level its never got beyond steady rain here but the snow is bad further inland and higher.

Few years ago when I had the 3litre Omega I was taking my wife to her work one evening. Steady rain here but the hill en route was thick with snow, cars spun out everywhere, its only 300 odd feet higher than here. Getting over the hill was entertaining in a 3litre automatic but a gentle right foot got us there! Came back a different, lower and snow free, route.

807' above sea level and 15 miles inland here.

The snow finally fizzled out at 1400.

Default Price of milk

A strange subject I know - but what are people paying for bog standard milk?
I've been paying Morrisons £1.09 for 4 pints (semi-skimmed) for some time and Aldi/Lidl etc. were charging the same. Back in November/December, this increased to £1.10 - no great problem. Today, it's priced at £1.15 for the same 4 pints - seems a bit of a savage increase so quickly after the last one?

The one thing you can be sure of - the smaller dairy farmer will see nowt extra in his monthly pot - I know of at least 3 local farmers who have given up on dairy farming. In all cases, it was costing them more per litre to produce than they were able to sell it for.

We went over to filtered milk in the autumn because we found we were having to throw away some of the normal stuff as it had gone sour, even though within date. Cravendale is the branded filtered product, but that's very expensive and the supermarkets filtered own brand is £1.35, which isn't too bad compared to throwing away 50p worth a week. I can detect no difference in taste but it seems to keep for at least 19 days more than standard semi skimmed.
