Well we've had Freelander TD4s in the family for donkeys' years and have found them no worse than Rovers, in some ways far better - at least they put the ECM in a protected place! |

Can I please take some cuttings from your money trees? Also, what 's the plan for the Gray Matter deficit? |

I would not swap my rover 75 for anything else as nothing else can match the comfort and I have previously owned many jaguars and even a Bentley T2.
This BMW engine is an amazing bit of kit, it runs and sounds like a brand new car and it has currently 217,000 on the clock. It will certainly outlast me, that is for sure.

Yesterday my wife admitted that she also hates our 2020 Subaru Outback. The nanny features and their constant bells and warnings are driving us nuts.
Now to find a modern car that won't try to tell us how to drive. On the bright side my new to me 2003 ZT-T should arrive in the next couple of days sporting just the right amount of technology!

Working with newer cars all the time, and find many horrors on a daily basis. Typically the really poor designs and materials used, even on the high end part of the parc. However one can be sensible when choosing a new car these days unless you need to keep up with "The Jones's"
Kia and Hyundai have been very much considered as a poor mans choice of brand, but generally they design and build quality into each vehicle with value for money, and only really fitted items that are needed rather than all the lazy tools the German car lovers aspire to. The confidence marketed with these "Poor Mans Car" include a warranty that stripps out every other brand out there adopting 7 years against the paultry couple you will get with your fashion car from Germany which show issues very early on, and cost fortunes to remedy. In addition, it has been revealed that the German fashion brands are seeing a departure from the buyers choices now, and beginning to see a shift. I have a Kia myself, it starts, drives well and returns reliability and great MPG. It has a few gizzmos, but nothing to shout about, performance is a bit dissapointing, but simply works well and enjoy not needing too much attention. We see much younger fashion cars with unbelieveable issues and wonder if it is just an accepted issue with fashion cars, hence we have hundreds and hundreds of them in stock (Mostly with issues requiring an average mortgage to fix) alongside countless Kia / Hyundais that are ready for delivery with no issues. |

I think the danger of cars becoming generic 'white goods' is that the brand nonsense (particularly with German cars) will fade. Nothing wrong with a south Korean car, and I think people are starting to realise.
My dad had a brand new Daewoo in 1999, and it never let him down. Totally abused, but you couldn't fault it. The Vauxhall and VWs he has had since have been more bothersome. |

It's difficult to understand why, perhaps it is the age demographic of the membership, but many here seem to have a complete misunderstanding of why people buy what could loosely be termed high-end cars. The term 'high-end' is of course relative.
People have dreams and aspiration, which in modern society often manifest themselves in possession of material goods. The aspiration or dream is always relative to that which is currently possessed. It is highly unlikely that this characteristic of humans is going to change in the next 50 or so years. When one gets into a Mercedes E-Class or a CLS, or even an A class, it is not difficult to see why many humans would aspire to drive such a machine. Whilst some may aspire to own a Daewoo, Kia or Seat, I don't think the majority of aspiring people are going to dream of owning one. These cars are the white goods of the car world, as were the Viva, the Chevette, the Escort and so on. So no, we are not about to see the majority of the populus thinking of cars as white goods. In any case, has anyone noticed how much time people spend in choosing a washing machine with all the bells and whistles? |
