Cases [sic] up 75% means nothing without data.

But I wonder if the NHS can cope? Maybe they should have had a lockdown or two to allow then to gather themselves and prepare........ oh wait.

I do have to wonder though how many people require hospitalisation due to regular flu over the same period two or three years ago. I would wager it would be quite a bit less than now.

Curious to know too, how many anti vaxers have flu shots each year.

Re the figures for Flu deaths disappearance from public view:

It had been a matter of concern for PHE that there had been a general decline in Flu vaccinations over several years and with the coming onset of last winter there was an expectation of considerable infections of Flu in the coming winter months of 2019. I had this from my GP of all people!!! They were pushing 'senior citizens' to be vaccinated against Flu at the time. I, we, had never once been vaccinated and never had the Flu so were considered at risk!

Then the "Pandemic" of Covid-19 struck and those deaths from Flu that had been expected were not counted as 'Flu deaths', but included in Covid-19 figures but with a crucial difference:

The death certificates all showed deaths from the primary cause of Covid with, and this is critical, all other causes being secondary..

So, the figures began from a false and exaggerated start, continued for nearly 18 months, and gave birth to the panic status that overtook. That definition disappeared from the figures provided on TV some 2 months ago and no doubt contributed to the 'sombrero' flattening that the PM referred to.

So, we are left with a false start, a phoney continuance, an encouraging and misleading downward graph, and the blagging of considered thought. Good luck.

Whether one vaccinates or not is academic. Personally I could not care less what anyone thinks about me, much too long in the tooth to be affected.

But I am very angry at being called derogatory names by people who don't know me but mock me. Not the mocking itself but the dammed cheek of insulting my intelligence and the everyday care I take. Not just avoiding infection, but also avoiding the possibility of infecting others!

Ref: Employers Liability.

Well, I'm not going to debate law, I'm not a lawyer so would not meet basic needs. However, I do have some experience in insurance and retain contact with industry experts. Experts who have long term high level standing, especially in changes in relevant legislation over many years. I can only speak to what the professionals with no axe to grind tell me. I'm not seeking approval or agreement, just putting another temperate personal view.

I suppose the test will be:
a. if any employees are fired for non-compliance with on-the-hoof edicts about vaccination from politicians' speeches prior to HoC/Lords
involvement and approval.
b. if vaccination is a condition of employment in any recruitment drive, or a 'do not apply if...' advertisement.

However, I stand by what I say and am happy to await any outcome. Whatever, it won't change my habit of a lifetime of not entrusting the health of my nearest and dearest to the vagaries of desperate temporary glory seekers in Westminster and their grateful servants in dependant commercial harness. Always ready to learn, from legitimate sources.

Carbolic soap kills all germs,I was scrubbed with it every day as a youngster,I remember the soap all goey and the water going grey, even though the soap was red.

Regarding insurance claims and wriggling:

Opinions about insurance companies are many and varied. There are frequent torrid tales of meanness, unclear definitions which penalise unwary p'holders and plenty of wriggle room when it is necessary.

In short, there a million ways to avoid paying. Whose fault is that? Every claim is valid (of course), every claimant an archbishop's virginal granddaughter, and any payout is justified.

From the sharp end: after 25 years in the industry, that’s direct customer facing from start to finish, handling all classes of General and Life (and, sadly, suicide) claims from commercial, motor, to falling off the tiles while putting up an aerial, I can attest to about 1200 claims. By their nature I can only guess at how many struck me as iffy.

However, there were around 10 where there could have been a doubt and I rejected two of those on grounds of ‘uninsured’. Take it from me, honest guv, companies dread refusing a claim except the unbelievably low premium quote ones. So, unless there is a specific knowledge that a fraud is taking place it is extremely unlikely that a refusal is on shaky ground.
Like so many other things, blasé opinion is merely hogwash.
