Your lucky in some respects in that a good engineering company bought a lot of the plant/tooling from the administrators on Jensen's demise and many panels and parts can still be made if not already on the shelf.

I'm envious

Yes Martin Robeys are making panels but the presses are worn out so what you get is a panel that needs a lot of work to get it to fit but at least it is a starting point, the rear screen is about £900 but I have a couple of spares if I ever need on. Hopefully not as they are all slightly different and need flexing to fit.

Yes most people are envious and I feel very lucky to be a custodian of one.

A perfect example is I needed a new Evaporator for the A/C, they are not available new and all the used ones are probably as bad as mine, I had a new one made and it cost £150 plus the VAT. Not cheap but I thought reasonable considering the amount of work involved. I just need to find a spare 2 day sto fit it.

Default Weighing up the pros and cons

If the car is in reasonable condition, I would keep the car and spend the money you would use for a new one!! If you buy a 'new' eurobox you will probably be paying more to buy and maintain it, plus, if you take out a loan, you will be in debt, rather than owning a lovely car. Many ex MGZT/75 owners regret selling them. There are many very helpful people on this forum who can advise you where to get repairs done at a reasonable cost. I had the timing belts done on my car at half the price I was quoted with the help of this forum and I have been steadily building up a stock of hard to find parts for my V6 for future use.
Inspect your car, make a list of the things that need to be done in order of priority and then post on this forum for advise.
My ZT is far from perfect but I have been steadily putting things right without getting in debt.
It is amazing how many people don't recognise our cars any more, especially the younger ones, they come and speak to me about it and it has also kept me busy during lockdown!

If you have the money and the love for the car then it’s best to get it done.

I have a spreadsheet of the costs of our Rover over the last 11yrs and it roughly equates to about £100 per month. You can’t even get a Fiat Tipo on monthly lease for that!

£800 will only buy you a heap of scrap these days. A couple of years ago, there were plenty of half decent cars for sale for about £1,000, with a long MOT. Look at Autotrader, EBay or Gumtree now and there are very few. Even our much-maligned 75s/ZTs are now fetching between £1500 and £3000 for average examples.

800 is cheap. What's the problem?

£800- that is a bargain, I spent £3000+ to get my ZT to the standard I felt the car should be on the basis of safety, etc. and further for maintanance and I am not a wealthy man, I qualify for no benefits apart from OAPension. If you cant afford to maintain your car.well the answer is there. Chris.S.
