The 1.6 has 300nm of torque Steve - whereas the 2.2 had 340nm - so not a huge difference. However, we were already discussing retiring from caravanning, and going down the route of self-catering country cottages for our jollies - possibly next year. Both of us now have a few muscle problems which don't sit well with the caravan, so we'd talked about a change a few times. The problem with the CRV has simply brought that decision forward. It was a bit of a shock when the garage rang - but I'm pleasantly surprised in being offered £2,500 trade in. I suspect they'll put it through an auction somewhere and look to get their money back. They'll have a decent margin on whatever I buy from them, so they won't lose out!

My parents had a caravan with plans to go here there and everywhere during their retirement but my mother's arthritis put paid to that idea.
If you like the freedom of the caravan what about looking into camper hire? |

We've had a lot of great holidays in this 'van, its 3 predecessors and the trailer tent before that. Since I retired, we've tried to have at least a month away from home at various sites across the UK, especially the South West - Cornwall in particular. We've both got the start of hip problems, Angela has a bad case of frozen shoulder and we just felt that lazing around in a cottage is a darned sight easier than doing so in a 21 foot caravan. I have considered a camper van, hired or bought, but the problem is what to do with them when you're on site and want to nip into into the local town? You've got to pack your crockery etc. away before you can use the camper as everyday transport, and getting parked at supermarkets and public ones too, is not easy. I often think that campervans are ideal for people who are into cycling or walking, so that they can leave the van on site whilst they potter around. Unfortunately, I'm not into either cycling or walking

Never thought of having to "start from scratch" anytime you wanted to go anywhere during a holiday.

Evening all, I've been catching up with a few more episodes of 'The Mandalorian' with a couple bottles of Henry's.

If you ever head down to Dorset for a break Rod give https://www.uptongrangedorset.co.uk/ a try really lovely folk who have been friends of our's for years. You may even recognise the front of the main building from a club calendar page a couple of years ago. Cheers Ian
