Default Original clutch fails at 196,000 miles !

Well a bit disappointed that it didn’t go to 200,000 miles, but cant complain can I ?

I knew it would happen before long but pedal got nearer and nearer to the floor and gears were very hard to change.

I sourced an original MG Rover clutch consisting of 2 plates and the slave for £129.95 delivered ( thanks to Arctic for the link )

I also decided to change the DMF given the mileage of the car and got an original LUC for £251.

Clutch is now super soft on the pedal, softer than I have ever had it, I always thought the pedal on the diesel needed extra leg muscles, but that myth has now been blown out of the water

You did well to get that many miles out of the original Rob.

Have you contacted MG Rover about a warranty claim?

they can last. my original clutch/slave on the typhoon went at 191000. Even at that point the bite point wasn't low at all, but the clutch had been slipping since around 160000 miles.

Thumbs up

Hi Rob, who did the change or did you do it yourself? Certainly had your monies worth out of the original clutch.

Absolutely disgraceful .

Fancy actually USING a car for that many miles AND changing gears while doing so.

Anyone would think you wanted it to wear out.

That's a big mileage to keep a clutch going. You must be a beautifully smooth gear changer .

Enjoy using the new one.

Is "Made in CN" on the labels Made in China?

I wonder who's got the record for the most miles on an original clutch. A sort of Moon Club for clutches .

That's lasted 15,000 miles more than mine and amazing, mine has done mainly motorway miles in its life so maybe less gear changes has helped its longevity

My tourer was on the original clutch at 183,000 plus miles and showed no sign of giving up. I was hoping to get to over 200,000 on the original clutch but the fire put pay to that.
