Default Rover 75 1.8 Club

Rover 75 1.8 Club. 1999 V-reg, in Dorchester Red, a rare metallic colour only used on the first year of production, and it looks stunning when clean. This car is my Dad’s, and he is giving up driving due to health issues, so it is a bit of sensitive one to persuade him. He’s hardly used it over the past few years, and before it deteriorates too far, we would like to see it go to a good home – someone who has the time, expertise and willingness to put right its faults and use it, as it is too good to scrap or break. It could be a very nice car when done. Some issues could be very easy to fix, they are mostly electrical, although the bodywork will need some attention (sills and a couple of blemishes on the bumpers). Mileage is very low at around 75,000. It’s very recently had a new engine crankshaft position sensor fitted. The MOT expired on 23rd of March, and it will need to be taken on a truck or trailer, or if you are brave, towed away (see below).
Good points:
Rare colour
Low mileage
Both keys present and working
Bodywork generally good (see below)
Spare alloy wheel as well as the standard space saver
Rubber boot liner
Cowley built, pre-Project Drive car in a rare colour
Engine had the head gasket replaced in late 2006 (by what was the local Rover dealer), has been fine ever since.
Inlet manifold gasket replaced around two years ago.
Cambelt replaced around 2015, very few miles done since. Power steering belt replaced at the same time.
Engine runs really well, it could do with a service though. Gearbox is fine.
Went straight through MOT last year
Two pretty much unused rear tyres – new after the MOT as they were advisories, hardly any miles done since – front tyres are ok for tread, but are about 11 years old, so would benefit from replacement.
Handbooks and two keys
Has had the handbrake lever modification
Longlife stainless steel custom-made exhaust with sports catalyst (exhaust will never need replacing) – boosts power, and louder than standard.

Bad points
MOT expired, will almost certainly need work to pass this year – likely at least welding to the sills
Some damp in the car (carpets appear damp), it has caused some mould in there too.
Windscreen is delaminating in the bottom o/s corner
Front o/s wheel has a leaking alloy rim.
Rear of front passenger seat is coming away from the back
A very few minor bodywork blemishes (in addition to the sills mentioned above), on the bumpers mainly, but then it’s a twenty-two year old car.
There seems to be a leak somewhere in the air conditioning system – the last couple of times it has been recharged, it has stopped pumping cold air after a few weeks. Both times it was checked for leaks and none found, however.

Various electrical issues:
Battery doesn’t appear to be holding a charge
Doesn’t start – well it does, but you need to run a wire between the positive terminal of the battery, and the starter solenoid with the ignition on
Windscreen wipers have a mind of their own – they are on permanently, only way to stop them is disconnect the battery.
Indicators don’t work
These are NOT due to the plenums being blocked and flooded - this has been checked and they are clear

So, with a little bit of effort, it could be a very nice car. It’s in a rare colour and far too good to scrap, I have tried to be thorough and honest about the condition – most of the problems are down to lack of use. It would suit an enthusiast with the inclination and ability to do the work, we would like to see it go to someone who will sort out its faults and appreciate it.

Open to fair offers, once you have come and looked at it, but more important is it goes to someone who will sort out its faults and use and appreciate it. It’s a bit difficult as it was hard enough to persuade my Dad to sell it.

Can supply pictures if you PM me with your email address. Car is in Gloucester, not far from M5 J11A

This car is still available and needs saving (also, it's on my drive and I need it out of the way)
