Smile Candy dryer.

We have an 18 month old Candy condenser dryer which is making a loud noise when the dryer is in the drum reverse cooling cycle, like the drum is scraping on something. any advice please?.Thanks, John.

Could be a bent spindle so the drum spins in an oval and not a circle. Dry bearing.
Something trapped between drum and what ever.

At 18 months is it still under warranty?

Take off the back panel and have look.---We found mice in ours.---They had tried to make a nest in it before chewing through an electrical cable and electrocuting themselves.------

The belt tensioner/tensioners would be a point of interest for me, more so if the problem presents in only one direction of drum rotation. If it is the problem it should be an easy and relatively inexpensive fix, replacement might even be avoided if you are lucky.

I looked at one for a friend making a similar noise a while back and the rear spindle ran on a bronze bush, which had worn oval, replaced the bush (only held by one screw) and it was silent again.

Many thanks for the replies, it is still under warranty, but the repair company said it will be the second week in June before they could come out. I got a local repair man to come out today. He found nothing wrong as I should have had the dryer running for about an hour to get it hot, thats when it makes the noise. I forgot about that. Her indoors is ordering a new dryer at the end of the month. Thanks again everyone. John.

You could take off the top and side, then run it and you will see/hear where the noise is coming from. It's extravagent to buy another when you could do that.

I have taken the top off, but was unable to see how to take anything else apart. Some videos I have seen on You Tube mean taking the front of the dryer off to access the works, I am not confident enough to do that.

No, don't take the front off: you'll lose the rigidity.

Sometimes that rear bearing can wear, as suggested by others. If it's a screeching type noise it'll probably be the "jockey wheels", ie, the tensioner. When looking for guidance online, do use the model number. Site diynot.com is very useful.

With modern driers often you take one side off to access the belt and drum bearing - usually just a few screws and a brace. With the top off you can see which screws to undo.
