Putin is in reality just a very powerful mob leader, and those around him owe their prestige to him, corruption is rife in Russia and hidden from western view, until we saw just how poorly their much vaunted military actually was, Its a police state, with as many military units holding the public under control as they have in their whole Army, internal security units control much of most Russians lives, but Putin will one day fall, and the empire he has built will fall with him, dictatorships don't tend to last once the figurehead goes. I think that Russia will be found to have a lot of problems and will need western help to rebuild its self, once its rooted out the corruption,

With solar, some systems need a 240v supply so you can use solar. No 240v, no electric which seems odd.

If there's no incoming voltage then it could feed back into the distribution network. Which is quite dangerous.

Good post. I doubt, however, that corruption will be totally eliminated as it is present in all countries (UK included).

It must work somehow, perhaps a relay to disconnect the solar from the grid when the grid goes down

In order to be able to feed back excess capacity into the grid, the solar inverter (along with all other generators) has to be synchronised in speed and phase ( think 2 engines running the EXACT same speed, and hitting TDC simultaneously) to the incoming supply.

With nothing to synchronise to, it has no choice but to shut down, in case it suddenly gets reconnected, unsynchronized.

Analogous to trying to control the speed of a MASSIVE engine, with your TINY engine, with a dog clutch.

Think, how does your car alternator disconnect itself from the battery when the engine is not running.

Just getting back on topic, the war is entertaining a different phase now which is more focussed on the east and south. Surely Russia has the might to eventually take the key areas? I’m afraid I cannot see nato being able to do anything other than it’s doing today, to intervene directly surely risks a world conflict. It’s awful to watch and it is getting worse. The UK armed forces are at their weakest ever state, our one aircraft carrier could be easily removed by one hypersonic missile. Loads of old fashioned but lethal harrier jump jets would be superb operating in Ukraine. I haven’t got a clue on how this will pan out, hope our leaders have more than bumbling rhetoric.

So it seems with conventional forces being impotent and the fear of unlimited, including nuclear, threatened reaction if further intervention by Western allies is used, then he has won already?

That can only encourage similar acts of war in other regions by the same source. Meanwhile the tragedy continues at pace and atrocities mount. Perhaps an alternative strategy could be brought into the mess. Russia’s biggest friend is China. Surely there is enough trade from China with the rest of the world to enable a flanking approach?

We actually have two aircraft carriers, Queen Elizabeth and Prince of Wales. PoW recently deployed to the artic. Harriers no longer exist and the UK isn't likely to be taking on Russia alone, we're in NATO.

Besides seeing how well the Russian military have performed reckon a bunch of Millwall fans is all that would be needed. Backed up by a couple of dozen Celtic/Rangers fans just in case. Sorted.
