Just as well, you'll only wear them out quicker.

No, that's what I mean - even with them not being auto, bits of them have worn out more rapidly than I'd like. Mostly the little gears inside the motors... member Trebor got new ones specially made, and I fitted them, but then other things started to go wrong - can't remember, think the motor case wore, and the tiniest amount of play stops it all working.

I bought different kinds of repair kits from eBay, but apparently identical ones didn't fit properly. I speculate that the motor units are so badly made that parts from different batches don't marry up.

I spent many, many hours on them, trying every combination of parts, filing tiny bits off, you name it - and eventually gave up when somebody was advertising new complete mirrors on eBay.

I bought a driver's side mirror, and moved the good motor from mine to the passenger side, which had a dodgy motor. Less than a year later, both have started to malfunction.

I've given up and disconnected the powerfold switch now, to stop me absentmindedly activating them, and having them jam open or closed, or leave the little motor grinding away permanently.

If bored, you can read the sorry saga here
