Question Front hub nuts - torque question

I'm replacing the front springs & dampers, plus the top mounts & bearings. I was planning on taking the whole lot off in one go, complete with the hub assemblies - as Jules suggests in post 2 here.

According to Rave though (page 47-2) the torque for this nut is 350Nm or 258ft lbs. Is that right? If so, what does everyone use to undo the old nut?
And how do you re-torque the new one later on? My torque wrench won't go anywhere near as high as 350Nm.

Pic below borrowed from Jules (link above).

Undo by knocking the tab out on the nut and either using an impact gun or a 3 foot bar and jumping on it if required.
Fitting being a reverse. A good pull on a decent breaker bar will provide plenty of torque. All that’s required to torque to 350nm is 35kg on the end on a 1m bar, or 70kg on a 0.5m bar. Then re-tab.

Or treat yourself to a torque wrench capable of 350 Nm!

Is there any reason not to switch the offside and nearside hub nuts over?
I think the staking of the nut will be in a different location.
I use a torque wrench capable of 350nm to torque them up and an electric impact wrench for undoing them, having unstaked the nut first.
Haynes manual also says 350nm

Stretch and deformation - you should be using new ones every time you take them off.

I've knocked the tab out since that pic was taken. I've already tried my 400Nm impact gun and it doesn't want to know (claimed ratings need to be taken with a pinch of salt). This one might do it but it'll take several days to arrive. I can't get a 3ft or 1000mm breaker bar quickly either. The fastest bar from Amazon is this 600mm - too short probably?

But you're talking about impact guns Simon and you've said that you don't trust the rating. I'm recommending the purchase of a high quality (e.g. Norbar) and accurate torque wrench which I am in no doubt will do both the loosening and tightening. It will also last your lifetime!

Yes, sorry, that's what happens when I try answering three posts at the same time.

Norbar's product selector doesn't come up with any 1/2" results https://www.norbar.com/Torque-Result

Try a visit to Halfords . Any kind of tubing slid over the handle of a 2 footer will move the world

A torque wrench must never be used for slackening nuts ever.

I'm surprised at you Simon

Torque wrench HERE

Brian

P.S. I use one of these to undo stake nuts, better than a breaker bar any day of the week ;
