Default Diesel clutch, which to choose?

I wasn’t planning on doing the clutch on the car, but with the struggle I’ve had getting the steering rack off and the fact I’ve already taken the legs off and popped the driveshafts out I’m thinking I may as well do it while I’m under the car. Some of the bolts were unrecognisable but amazingly they all came, and the fact I’ve dropped the subframe will give me opportunity to clean and rustproof along with other areas that are hindered.

I’ve no idea if it’s original but with 83k I’m assuming so, and I’ve been waiting for it to let go since I got it on the road.

So the question is which kit is the best, or which is likely to last the longest?
I was in two minds whether to bother or not given some parts are of very poor quality but it seems to make sense given the bulk of the work is done.

I’m expecting the dmf to be within spec, so I’ll be needing a slave, clutch and possibly master depending on whether I can be bothered.

Borg and Beck clutch. Not sure about slave. DMGRS have the master cylinders.
It is a big job doing the clutch but you have already done a lot of work, good luck

Could be marinabrain suggested this kit to someone

Haha I know, which is why I dont want to do it again in 6 months!
But yes, the bulk of the work is done in that the subframe is completely off, gearbox drained and driveshafts out so short of the gearbox bolts, selectors and any cables it’s as good as off.

I know there are the two main choices, Borg and beck or luk, probably isn’t much to differentiate between them

be careful unclipping the gear cables from the gear box as the wire clips can snap and are no longer available. I found separating gearbox and engine difficult as the engine was sitting at an angle and the gearbox horizontally. mike noc came to my rescue
but I am please I did it, sense of satisfaction.
Also the gearbox to engine bolts are different lengths, draw a circle on some card and place each bolt in a hole on the circle in the appropriate position

For the difference in cost, I have always gone Luk as I believe these were oem fitment, and have lasted well.
Can't comment on the quality of borg and beck - believe they are reasonable, but haven't fitted one.

Would certainly say, given the amount of work to change one, I would avoid the cheap brands-as if they fail the cost saving is wiped out by the time spent replacing (even if the parts are replaced for free)

Thanks for the comments so far!

I was leaning towards an LUK kit of some form, looking at dmgrs’s website I can have an LUK slave but come with a Borg and beck clutch (which I’d have thought would be fine) but of course full LUK kits are available elsewhere.

Is there any comments on the metal master they’re selling? If I’m going to do it I’m doing the lot. In fairness I think I’d be happy if I got two to three years out of it! I’d be surprised if the rest of the car lasted as long as that anyway...
