screen cracked today - what should i do?
Hi,
I hit a speed bump today and noticed a crack in my screen. I'll check my insurance in the morning to see if it's covered. I noticed a spare one on ebay @£79 in Bournemouth. I'm in reading so it's a fair drive away. If I buy it do I need clips to install and who fits them? If I go to a screen specialist how much should it cost? Many thanks, James |

I got some quotes last year, auto glass wanted £600-700 To supply and fit. A local independent quoted £170 to supply and fit.

Most insurers cover the screen with an excess of £75 to £90 provided their recommended glass company is used. Also with most companies there is no impact on your NCD but this is worth checking with the insurer.

Cost me £85 insurance excess when mine suddenly cracked - think it was National Windscreens who did it. It was fascinating to watch the young lad do it
PS make sure you specify the right option - ie whether it has the rain sensor or not

the clips could be a tough call, they may not break. Check with the fitter that if they do and you get replacements will they come back and finish the job at no extra cost?

When Kims windscreen cracked a few years ago I found a mobile windscreen repairer based in Manchester. They did the job, glass and fitting for about £250.Turned out my fully comp insurance didn't include new windscreens

I'd go through your insurer if you have cover - then if the job goes wrong you have some fallback.
If not, a local company is a good shout. Just be prepared to replace some trim clips as they often break.

When mine went some years ago it was weird. Put it in the garage as I did every night. Came to get it out next day, and there was a 12"+ crack along the screen.
