Default Spring-return brake - rear - SMK100310 - Genuine MG Rover

I just noticed this part has gone missing from my rear driver brakes set. I fitted two new ones recently during a complete brake overhaul. The passenger rear seems fine and is still in place. Puzzled as to how I got that wrong and why it came off at all?

Is it anti-rattle, pad assist return or something else? I'm planning to order a new one but was surprised it was listed at £9 for just one on Rimmers. Does anyone know a more economical supplier?

Also, is it a safety issue for driving a short distance?

If it is the same as the 1.8, PM me your address and I will send you one.
I need to know today or tomorrow as after that I wont have access to the bit.
I am not sure if the part is the same across the range or differs
