Rear heated screen wire come off
Hi one of the wires to my heated rear screen has come off.
I know its originally soldered but didnt fancy trying that. Tried glue and covering the thing with conductive paint but when i switched it on it smoked and glass got very hot so took it off pdq Anyone got any other ideas ??? Was thinking of electrical condictive tape to join the top and bottom sections and leave the broken wire off. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk |

solder it back on, I accidently pulled one of mine off and soldered it back.
Think how hot the screen gets on a summers day standing in the sun all day with the windows closed. Not as hot as solder but still, hot macafee2 |

Did this to mine accidentally when fitting my electric sunblind.
Looks daft in winter as only half the screen heats. I’ve looked at conductive paints, conductive adhesives etc but nothing quite seems up to the job. I’ve also wondered about putting a load of something like Araldite over the top of the wire and glass to keep the connection held down but meh, seems messy. You know what... Its a lovely day and the missus is getting ready for a hen night... I’m going to crack out the soldering iron and have a go. Report back shortly! |

Well that went a lot better than I thought it would!
Most time consuming bit was finding the old wire that I took out - was lurking in the shed. Turns out when the wire came off it ripped a bit of contact off the screen itself. Luckily, the metallic contact part is relatively big on the rear screen so I was able to solder it on a little further down from where it originally was. Started off by melting the old solder off the wire to effectively clean it up and remove the old bit of contact that got ripped off. I then applied a fair bit of solder to the screen and held the wire in place while the solder hardened. Couple of pictures (click to expand). Sorry about the quality. Before: After: Also had time to take the high level brake light off and clean the housing - had some dead bugs in it and looked annoying from outside. I used a boggo standard 30W Antex iron and some standard lead-free solder so best of luck with yours. |
