Default Tourer Boot Won't Open - Microswitch Failure

Hello all,

I've been a R75 Tourer owner for just over a year now and it's been a thoroughly rewarding experience so far!

I've got a small issue however and wondered if anyone had an easy fix. My Tourer's tailgate release switch on the rear of the car has stopped working. I've taken the rear boot plinth (which houses the switch and number plate lights) off the car and verified with a multimeter that it's a switch failure - when depressed, the switch changes from open circuit to a few hundred ohms but I wonder if it's possible to effect a repair without having to replace the whole boot plinth. I've tried a spray of Servisol switch cleaner but to no avail.

Many thanks!

Simon.

If you open the little hatch in the tailgate that is made to hold the warning triangle you will see a little oblong piece that pulls out and if pulled will open the tailgate.

Cheers for the replies, chaps. I've found a Tourer being scrapped near me and am off on Friday to take the whole silver plinth assembly off the tailgate.

I'm also going to relieve it of its Union alloys as a couple have new tyres on them and I only need a couple to be able to replace my crappy 5-spoke facelift wheels.

I do like a few hours in a scrapper!!
