I don't know if it is still there but when you turn left at Fort William going towards Mallaig, after a few miles there is a building that houses a very nice collection of old rocks and a lot of interesting things to do with the land and the sea. You can lose an hour in there easily.

If you can go to the RAF museum in Montrose, my grandfather was based there just before WW1 in what the RAF was known as beforehand the RFC. There is lots too see and lots of books. My grandfather has a small display of his achievements. (HCS Bullock MBE)
Going west why not give the car a proper run over to Applecross via the "Pass of the cattle" a road to sort the men from the boys, beautiful scenery as well. Enjoy

Thanks for the recommendations chaps!
Had a pretty exciting day today - started off fossil hunting at Upper Eathie on the Black Isle - it's a fairly steep 2 mile walk from the car park to the beach, but worth it as we were the only people there and managed to pick up a few interesting fossils: IMG-20170605-WA0002 by Then on the way back found an family who were with a elderly relative who had slipped and possibly broken her ankle on the way down to the beach, about a mile from the car park. We walked back up the the top to signal the ambulance which was on its way and in my haste to move the Rover out of the way, I managed to beach it by misjudging the depth of a small ditch alongside the car park. Leaving the car precariously beached, nose first in the ditch, we helped the paramedics carry all their kit back down the path and then helped them carry the lady a mile back up on a stretcher to the waiting helicopter: IMAG0294 by Thankfully a couple of policemen turned up to help with the rescue and then very kindly gave the car a tow out afterwards: IMG_20170605_200959 by All's well that ended well I guess, even if we did eventually get home and cook our supper about 3 hours late! The car's OK, just my pride a little dented!! Last edited by Tourist; 5th June 2017 at 22:32.. |
