This should be interesting
I've just received a voucher for a free Mot from Halfords.
So I've booked in the Ztt for next Tuesday. I wonder how long the list of failures will be !!!! |

A friend of mine thinks it's a good idea - test at Halfords if it passes it's a cheap MOT - if it fails go somewhere else. But here's a thought: once tested these results will be available to other MOT stations when they test it (I'm assuming - but they are available to anyone or cares to look really). If there are failure items on the Halfords test then what do they do? Their word against Halfords? or treat it as a re-MOT (i.e. repaired)? Or err on the side of caution and fail it on the same? I'm not sure what they might decide to do - especially if there's even the slightest doubt on the fitness of a particular component.

All information is immediately input to the DVLA system and therefore any failures will be on that, and really that is a daft course of action. I take my car to a garage I trust, and they are fair. The new format for the test is pass or fail, which is logical.

I had 2 cars moted via Halfords in September I think, both passed.
you could always speak nicely to the tester and ask he raises any concerns with you before proceeding. I even asked if they would abandon the mot if I asked them too, therefore no failure recorded but I could take car home and fix. macafee2 macafee2 |

I wouldn't, my MOT tester is called Colin - I've known him for years and we have a good chat about cars every time I go in. He is entirely correct but fair when he's testing so if a car fails on a bulb or similar he pops off into the back to try and find one. The place he works is a proper old style garage and to be fair they have struggled with various 75 issues because they don't have a T4 (not many places do obviously) but get to know and support your local garage is what I say

My local garage is the only one in the village. Brilliant trustworthy guys but..... they closed last Friday. After 55 years the owner wants to retire and nobody is interested in taking it over. He was telling me it’s a lot of hard works for the independent garage to keep going. The result, the garage is to be demolished and new flats built there, just what’s needed. Now I’ve to find another trusted independent to use. Plenty of chain type stuff in Dundee but I’m not keen on those so if anyone has a recommendation I’d be pleased to hear it!
