Earlier on this year, we had to use a solicitor in South Africa to take tenants to the high court for unpaid rent of £13,500. The tenants had a stream of excuses for non payment, all plausible and articulately presented, but worthless. We won the case and had to pay extra to get them blacklisted. They disappeared. I suspect they have changed their names and we will never see that money again. When they took up the tenancy, we were told by the letting agent, they were credit checked and the man was high up in one of the faiths of the long beard, that he was of good moral standing. Ultimately they were liars. I sympathise with Andy. I hope he gets his money back.

Absolutely shocking, unless you know them I would insist on money for parts in the future for big jobs. I know what it's like, you try to be kind and accommodating and end up getting shafted.

Sorry to here about this, I was once in a similar position and luckily for me the car needed more work a month or so afterwards and I managed to get the previous owed sum before I started on the next job and of course he was not getting his keys until I had received payment in full for the second job.

I now will only let an owner have his keys once I have the funds in my hands and no cheques as these are so easy to cancel.

I know of one garage that has had to sell a car to get monies owed as the owner was coming up with many excuses, apparently you are well within your wrights to do this.

Small claims court but it might be difficult to serve papers if his address is unknown. I suppose removing the wheels when you first saw the car would have sharpened his focus.
I hope the forum can find out where he has moved to. How about booking a viewing and see what you can glean from the estate agent.

Andi as rev has said you are as honest as they come a true credit to this club and its members!! You sorted me out with my clutch and gearbox and they're still working a treat!! I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles 😞

Maybe I am considered old school, but if I give my word about something that’s my bond.
