With Colin NIs accident and the fleeing driver and now this, it's not been a good time for our little group , sad sign of the times

The evidence suggests that that would be a waste of Andy's time and money. If his phone is cut off and his house for sale with vacant posession, he won't be able to pay any award made by a Court.

Again, Andy's story suggests that the customer may well have been truthful when he said that he'd lost his job. Therefore events conspired to make it impossible for him to pay his bills. I don't think it was a deliberate trick at all. Being in debt is a horrible situation which destroys your self respect.

if that is the case then he should have spoken to Andy, made him aware of financial situation.

it is sickening to think someone has fleeced someone else.
Now if Andy asks for money up front people may think ill of him but onec bitten twice shy, cant blame andy for wanting money up front after this.

I hope Andy does track him down and get and get what he is owed.

I made a similar mistake some years ago when I helped someone out who was also in the transport business. After numerous requests for payment, I ended up taking him to court, gaining him a CCJ. Unfortunately, I subsequently found out that there were 22 (yes, twenty-two ) others ahead of mine...

Never got my money and the court process just added to my costs. But since then it's payment up front, or I simply don't do the job. Just not worth the hassle and time it takes to chase.

As Brian says, I'm sorry to say you might well have to put this one down to experience

Take up on this thread, if I have job done by any one on here I will always make sure I have the cash to pay, even If I know the people on here to do work for me, I also know I can trust them to do the work properly after paying up front.

If the Police do stop him, they are likely to take his car off him and crush it. You might do well to put in a request to them to let you take it off their hands, in part payment for his debt to you. If he's lost it through breaking the law, the least he could do is sign it over to you. As long as he doesn't know, if you dobbed him.
