Quite right - the middle lane is the only lane you ever need, but 60 is getting on with it a bit isn't it?!!! ;-)

You'll find that with the diesel : light foot not equal to keeping to 60mph. I find little to no difference in cruising mpg between 60mph and keeping with (or exceeding) average traffic speed. Most fuel is used when accelerating. So slowing down to speed up again is just as bad as hammering it. 600 miles to a tank is fairly routine on long motorway runs if you're not risking losing your licence.

I consistently get 600 mls per tank driving from Yorkshire to west Hungary, done it 16 times in the last 4 years. I drive through the night in UK and on the weekends across Europe, less traffic that way, very few trucks on the roads in Germany and Austria I think they need special permission to travel on weekends. I'm pretty sure my average speed is over 60mph.

Hi I get over 620 as an average from a full tank, mixed driving, no matter how I drive, either car, manual saloon and auto tourer
