So what's going on here? (Daimler limo on eBay)
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-Da...s/283541855960
I have an interest in Daimlers so often see what's happening on eBay. This one popped up with a low mileage so I checked its MoT history to see what had happened since it was registered in 1995 - the listing claims that it's never been welded and when a seller says that the mileage is 'believed to be genuine' I always think that's suspicious. More likely, what they mean is 'that's what it reads now and seeing as it's a low number, we're not questioning it'. The MoT history says that it should be black, not white and also it looks like it had to have its sills repaired in 2011 at an indicated mileage of just 32,398. What do you reckon's gone on here? My best bet is that it's an ex funeral car and has done 33,000 miles following a hearse in all weathers, hence the need for welding and someone's now re-sprayed it white for wedding use but not changed the V5c. The mileage does seem pretty low though. I don't particularly like the shut line at the bottoms of the two nearside rear doors either! If that's it - what is the likely condition of that 4.0L AJ6 engine after it's basically been idling for the past 33k miles and 24 years?! |

Those nearside doors look like they've undergone some rather rushed repairs.

It seems odd that the interior is not leather, and the twin headlight version of the XJ40 is the base one (although I prefer it!). I would suspect that the Daimler grille is a later change! The shut lines referred to may be a result of the conversion - they were not built by Jaguar.

I see :
Looks like rust bubbling up at bottom of rear doors. No closer up pictures. Wonder why. Definite rust staining near sills. Rubber shroud for door wiring shows clear signs of white paint overspray, shroud not fitted back correctly. Nice obvious insulation tape covering warning light on dash. Must of been like it from factory, guv. Barge. Pole. Touch. Not. Re-arrange. |

Interesting it passed the MOT on 12th July, wonder what the warning light is that is hidden by the black tape on the dash
Edit: Apparently its a brake warning light

That made me laugh out loud - great advice!
The brake system on the late XJ40s is quite an expensive thing to repair when it goes wrong. I wonder if that electrical tape is hiding a very expensive repair bill. In all, it doesn't look a great proposition, does it? |

I wouldn't touch that with somebody else's barge pole let alone mine. Looks like a nightmare about to start for it's next proud owner.
My father had a normal one in the mid 90's, and to say it was an unmitigated disaster on wheels is an understatement. He couldn't get rid of it so chopped it in for an older BMW 7 series, which was a great car and gave him no trouble at all.
