Possible cranshaft pulley issue?
Hi, my Tourer is almost at 150k and been absolutely brill to now. However, last night, it suddenly started making an awful loud knocking type noise from the pulley end of the engine. No broken belts or any other damage so can only assume the pulley has given up. Have been towed to a local garage as I didnt want to risk driving it with this racket going on nor risking further damage. Garage will assess this week but the breakdown guy's first impression was crankshaft pulley. Shame most of the mechanics are away on holiday, so it may be a while before i hear

This happened to me a couple of months ago on 105,000 miles. The AA diagnosed it but couldn't fix it on the spot. They took me to a garage nearby close to Dublin Airport and the guys fixed it in a couple of days for a reasonable price. The pulley was 220 Euro and the labour 85. I thought that was OK as I was far from home and they seem to have done a good job. I also got them to replace the zircon fan belt while they were in there. Jeremy

HI Gary.
Try well insist that they only fit a Corteco pulley such as this below, after market pulley's will not last long, good luck Arctic. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FOR-ROVER...Y/151487666547

Many thanks for the heads up, hope this solves the problem, whenever they get round to it! (at least i have AA garage repair cover upto £500 so that should do the trick!!)

Get the belts done too while they're in there, if they're anywhere near needing done.
