Default Wife has uttered those awful words.........

............."Is it time to get rid of your car???"

After the exhaust back box fell off on our track few days ago (now replaced) brakes still sticking on the front, I thought I would investigate the knocking from the front, same side as sticky brake ..........couldnt believe it - another broken spring!!! Now this was replaced from new this time last year after I lost both front springs overnight periods sitting on the drive after cold snaps, with simplex brand springs.
So now I have to sort the spring out before looking at the brakes but......

....I cant get one of the wheel nuts undone

Have tried my impact driver, 3 foot breaker bar and presently have squirted loads of plusgas on it to try to loosen any rust in there. Any other suggestions on how to loosen this without hopefully snapping it????

I really dont want to get rid but these cars really do test our patience and love (and of course wallet)!!

Drive the car backwards and forwards a few feet, might ease it loose

electric impact wrench for the wheel nuts.
I think I too have a binding brake as the fuel consumption... I want watch the needle drop

Tighten the other four nuts really tight, this should help remove a bit of pressure on the fifth one, then get a punch and a hammer and hit the offending nut a few times before trying again.

Me too and did it when my soon two year old Lesjöfors rear spring failed. Took it back to the supplying agent who sent in a claim with the spring (and failed bit), two months later I got a refund.

Many thanks indeed, that worked a treat. ........Now for that awful pinchbolt!! (currently soaked in plusgas. BTW the fitted spring protector did its job and saved the tyre!!

my wife muttered those words to me in 2012, I only bought the car in 2011, and has subtly reminded me each and every year since.

Mine also did this very day 😩

Along with "do you really need such a big car just for yourself 90% of the time"

In reality i don't, but who lets need and practicality get in the way of wanting something ?

The parts for these cars are the cheapest I've ever seen, and being able to get them 15-20 years after they were built is amazing. Also, these cars aren't new, so are going to require constant maintenance.

I'd get rid of your wife first, and keep the car.
