I know it maybe head gasket problem, Friends are telling me to scrap it. But i really do love this car its cumfy And its big enough to allow me to drive without feeling squash. Being 6ft 4inches. Anyway lets cut to the chase does anyone know how much a new head gasket is likely to cost and one more thing my rear door on the drivers side wont open Does any one know how to open it? Cheers |

Hello
I have not used this guy myself but just google him DAVE KAYLEIGH - he is based in Derbyshire and does have a lot of good feedback (bordering on praise!) He advertises a HG fitting service on ebay, all told I reckon you will pay somewhere in the 300 - 400 for the new HG, waterpump, cambelts etc. Hope this helps - I used to be on the Wirral and can honestly say a couple of places there are sharks (the old 1.8 K Series 'sh**' engine comment seems to precede them doing any work on it - covering up for their lack of ability / care for you??) |

I cant help you with the head gasket but my rear passenger door would not open and it was the child lock lever on the inside of the door just below the handle easy fix.

I had Dave replaced my head gaskets (and a couple more belts). Can recommend them (I believe same people as "Dave and Kayleigh" by r75newbie). They are quite popular on the other MG Rover forum.
Website: http://www.dave-mgrovermobilemechani...k/services.php For the HG, it will cost something about £300 to £400 (+fuel cost), depending on if you want to replace the belts as well (recommend to do so with the HG if the belts are in bad conditions, you really don't want a snapped belt destroying other stuff). Base cost is £295 for MLS gasket + inlet manifold gasket + a service + some other stuff. Dave's fuel cost is reasonable. They charged me £50 fuel to go from Derby to London (and back) and replace the HG at my flat parking bay. I don't mind that at all for the convenience. Recommend you also ask them if they fix your radiator as well. They probably can. As for rear door, you have to describe it (in a separate post) in more detail. People probably can help.

This time last week, I knew nothing about this subject, but I'm learning fast!
First, which engine do you have? Second, are you sure it's the CHG at fault? I rang my local garage last week, having been told that my CHG had failed. At first, they quoted a price of £500 - £600 to replace, assuming it was a diesel. When I pointed out that my car has a V6 petrol engine, the estimate doubled. Fortunately, it turned out that my problem isn't a CHG at all; it's the water pump which is at fault. According to the garage (former Rover agents), CHG failures are common on diesel engines; on petrol engines, they are very rare but much more difficult to replace. Hope this is some help. If not, there are several people in this club who are far more knowledgeable than I and I'm sure one of them will correct me if I'm wrong. |

why hgf ???????? from what you have said ,the problem is with the rad. go to a breakers and get a rad ,bleed the system so its free from air and see how it goes .if there is water coming out the rad then has to be air getting in ... dispite what is being said about the k-series engine ,they arent as bad as that .dont go back to that garage ,it is the other way round . yes you do get and i have seen for myself deisels with hgf .but looking at those cars you can see they aint been looked after .
