Fuel economy (that old chestnut again)
Well after initial dissapointment with my fuel economy, I have good news.
With a mixed mostly short journey average of 35 mpg from my 75 2litre diesel tourer I have just done 300 miles mostly around 80mph and I've achieved the impossible.... ....... 45 mpg, yes, 45 mpg!!!!! I am delighted. Jon. |

That's a good figure indeed. I take it that wasn't on a public road then?

Err, consider that a typo.
I saw a silver tourer ztt and a mk2 tourer in blue while journeying as well, looked across as I gracefully overtook but no response, presumably pre occupied with fuel consumption or not club members 😀 Jon. |

I was on the M6 yesterday coming back from Stafford and as some of you may know all too well there is about 20 miles of roadworks just north of Stoke which is obviously all 50mph and almost entirely flat motorway. Traffic was flowing well and I got bored so I reset the IPK to see what happened....... I know, like I said I was bored
Anyway at 50mph with a freshly reset IPK it sat at around 52mpg for about 10 miles, when the roadworks finished I sat at 70 for another 10 miles and it dropped to around 46 - when I got bored of that and started keeping up with traffic a bit more it dropped to 42. Within 3 miles of leaving the motorway it had dropped to 37. My usual average at the moment shows as 33mpg. So apparently you can get over 50mpg in an auto CDTi - why you'd want to drive at 50mph on a motorway is another question entirely however! |

My ZTT achieves a reasonably good mpg for such a big car, according to the ipk about 40 to 45 mpg between fill ups which is a mix of usually A road, motorway and town driving.

I got 18mpg out of my ZTT V8 400 yesterday. 24mpg is possible but I have managed 12mpg as well.
Whereas I can achieve a whopping 39mpg out of my 1.8t.

With just driving local journeys only this is as much as I've seen on my 75.

45 for mixed driving in an auto seems pretty good.
I got the best consumption figure I've ever achieved last week - an indicated 57.6 MPG on a 40 to 50 MPH stooge for about 45 miles on some fen roads on the way to see the in-laws. Conditions were perfect - nearly no traffic around and that which I got stuck behind was doing a very mpg-friendly 48-ish for many miles. The biggest enemy of high MPG figures is using your brakes - if there's nobody around to get annoyed if you gently slow down as you approach roundabouts (rather than maintaining a decent speed and then slowing down quickly in the brakes) then you can make a big difference. I completed 268 miles of mixed driving that day, including a good bit at motorway speeds on the M6 and when I got back the IPK read 49.5 MPG. I was fairly happy with that! |
