Default Maf / re-map 160 bhp

Maf / re-map 160 bhp

Hi all,

Just got a question ref the MAF and remapping my CDTi.

Not the last Nano meet, but the one before, Jamie hooked his PC into my ZT and mentioned that my MAF wasn't doing a lot.

Now I'm planning to have a remap in the new year, and Jamie said that the MAF could be "mapped out" at the same time, but I'm concerned about excessive smoke.
At the moment, after a couple of fuel system cleaners, EGR and inlet manifold clean, and intercooler hose replaced, the car is running ( to me anyway ) great.
But I will be towing with the car in the new year, and the 160bhp remap has a lot of positive comments.
Would it be prudent to replace the MAF rather than have it mapped out?

Also, how does the remap effect fuel economy? At the moment, I'm struggling to get early 40's to the gallon even with a light foot on the loud pedal.

Many thanks for any help and advice.

Richard

To be fair I did fit a new BMW maf to mine not long after I bought it.

The 160 remap BigRuss did on mine actually improved fuel consumption.

It was a win / win for me.

Can't answer about the no maf set up tho.

Personally I'd replace the maf sensor, and then get the 160 map from a trader here. Big Russ did mine also, and my maf was a little poor, the difference after the map is very noticeable in performance and a slight improvement in economy, but with a new maf I have very slight smoke under hard boost only and it's like a different car now.

Don’t go down the Mafless remap route, it has been proven to cause emissions failure at mot time.

My ZR has a maf less map and far too smoky, can't find anyone local to sort it out.
Extremely fast but not great on fuel
