Compression problem.
Hi everyone. Need your advice/help if I may. My dad has a 75 tourer diesel and it keeps blowing oil out of the dipstick. He took it too his local garage who said the engine was nackared and would cost over 1k to fix. Now I'm no mechanic but think this isn't the case. Drives great and only done 120k. He's considering scrapping it but he loves the car and spend quite a bit of money on it recently. Any advice from you wonderful people would be a great help.

Suggest you try a different garage as well to get the filter fitted

PCV Filter
Quote:
If you are ok with a spanner you will be able to do this job your self, it will maybe take you first time about 45 minutes. I would also at the same time change the oil filter and oil, thus making sure you have the right amount oil in the car. Remove the engine cover. 1 2 Remove the air ducting. 3 4 Remove the air filter cover. 5 Remove the injector wiring loom. 6 7 Undo the four Allen key captive bolts on the PCV filter cover. 8 Lift it up to reveal the PCV filter. 9 Replace with your new filter also change over the seal that come with the filter. 10 Refit all the above in reverse. 11 You get stuck drop me a PM

Great pics as ever Steve.
I usually leave the air ducting bolted up and slide the air filter off the end of the pipe - if the three bolts are seized on the front of the air ducting they can be a pain to remove. Also find it easier to unclip the injector leak off pipe and move it out of the way, but each to their own. |

Yes I have followed the same procedure sometimes, on the odd occasion the PCV filter housing comes off without having to remove the injector hose and as you say the three stupid brass/ rubber fixings will 99.9% just spin so I remove them and change them for spires.
