New owner with 75 Connoisseur
Hello all, just thought I'd introduce myself and the latest purchase, I'm sure I'll be looking for plenty of technical advice in due course!
I was looking for a bit of a workhorse and tow vehicle that was also a nice place to sit and have ended up with this 2004 Connoisseur: IMG_20200126_134028 by Ru W, on Flickr IMG_20200126_133957 by Ru W, on Flickr It's a manual diesel and has covered just over 100,000 miles. It has full service history, but I have no other documents on what work has actually been done on it. It's never failed an MOT so I assume has been well looked after. So far I'm very pleased with it, but there's a few things which are going to need looking at: -Boot appears to be leaking -Parking sensors are quite intermittent and often just beep at me non-stop -Heated seats don't seem to be doing much -Clutch feels a bit on the heavy side, but is all working fine, and the bite point is where I'd expect it. -I only have one key for it, so I'd like a spare if not excessively expensive. -There's also a very slight whine coming from somewhere - might just be the turbo and possibly just me being paranoid. -It also has 16 inch wheels on it which I think are smaller than what it left the factory with, particularly as the speedo is over reading by quite a bit. welcome to the forum, lots of help and advice here.
If a CDT and if you are towing a caravan or similar weight, having it remapped to 160 is a "must" if a CDTI the remap will make a big difference on long journeys. I tow a 5 birth caravan clutch, a member bled his and put new fluid in and made it better boot leak, check tail light seals as these can split, check trim along the side or if you are unlucky it could be under the trim on the rear screen but lots of advise here on how to deal with each issue. Alas heated seats could be the element. Not sure if they can be repaired or if you are better off putting a new heating pad under the cover as a replacement. there will also be things for you to check as a precaution, the plenum being one best of luck macafee2 |

Heated seats can fail due to a fracture on the supply wire under the seat. ( it rubs on the underwear wire suspension and Chaffee through) On my first Connie this would blow the fuse to the pass seat motors. Strange but true! Your clutch is at design life so save up around £450 a £500 for a Borg and Beck replacement between now and 130,000m
Deffo 160 remap as advised but to get the benefit of this a full engine and filter service, inc PCV filter, replacement silicone intercooler pipe and an intake manifold deep clean (horrid job) is highly advised. For another £70 on top change the MAF as this may also be out of spec by now. I did all the above and transformed my Rover into a a very quick and smooth Roooooovvvverrrrr!!!! Your wheels are as standard for the year and trim level. Mine are in the back garden now having replaced them with 18” 11 spokes and wider rubber. Not as comfy but better manners.

Looks to be Pearl Black like mine – which is also AY54 (Ipswich) reg.
I’ve done all the leaking boot fixes – feel free to PM me if you ever want any help And the parking sensors There’s a couple of guys on here can copy keys – don’t believe the claims of the likes of Timpson. They won’t work properly. The slight whine might be your aircon – try pushing the Economy button and see if it goes away. Good luck, enjoy

I had similar with my sensors. Remove the bumper and examine the wiring harness which connects the sensors to the control unit. The main connector could be rotten, or any of the individual sensor connectors. Or one or more sensors may need replacing. With the engine NOT running, but the ignition on, select reverse and listen to each sensor. They should tick. You can swap sensors easily.

While this is absolutely correct – and you should do it – I spent half my life at it, then gave up and fitted one of these… £10-15 for the entire kit (ECU, sensors, everything) and been using it for many years now

HI R
Welcome to R40 ownership you look to have found a decent car from the MOT I have looked at, well worth looking after. One of the nicer blues in ours cars, first check the plenums link below, the boot leak could be the rear lights, the gasket as a gap in them which can be replaced or repaired, there maybe a few little mods you need to do if they have not been done already. Bonnet mod, A/C pipe hose rubbing may need tying back, PCV checked and changed, where about in the west midlands are you, check out our meets we have six times a year link below. http://www.midlandsnanomeets.co.uk/meets_2014.html Also check the front cooling fan is working by doing a demist test, then check the engine temp on the OBD or you could always drop me a PM and as I say if not to far drive over and I can go over the car with you.
