Question Repairable or replace?

My ZT-T project:~

Now the work on the engine is completed, I will arrange an MoT soon. Trouble is, both buttons on both rear doors do NOT pop up when unlocking the car on the remote, although thy both drop down when locking the car using the remote.

Are they repairable without much problem ~ I have in mind a poor connection clean up or something simple maybe ~ or is the best option to fit a known good one?

I have swapped the mechanism on a front door and that was one of the most tiresome jobs I've ever done on any car.

Is there some way to check the locking mechanism OFF the car ~ connecting to a 12 volt supply ~ to see if a used one works before fitting?

Any pointers or recommendations here greatly appreciated.

I've often wondered what the point of these are, after all, you don't physically need them other than a visual aid to see if the door is locked/unlocked It has been known for owners to remove then altogether
No help I know, just an observation

Classic sign of one of the two motors in the lock failing.
I have successfully taken one apart and put it back together ( third attempt after the other two faulty ones got stuffed in the bin) but it is really not practicable. There are a few fixing screws and a series of white clips that break as soon as you look at them, there is a rather large rivet to prise off and try to reform on reassembly and if you don't take a picture of how it should look at the start then you haven't got a cat in hells chance. still it was three hours of my life I won't get back just trying.

Both my ZT-Ts drop all four door buttons automatically soon after driving off each time.
Speed locking, can be disabled by T4 if desired

Pretty sure TOAF can do this too
Options available via T4 & Toaf
Daytime running lamps on or off (aka VOLVO!)
Speed locking on or off
Lazy lock and vent (using the door key only) function on or off
Single point entry (one press to open drivers door, second press for rest)
Headlamp delay on or off
Tail lamp delay on or off
Number plate lamp delay on or off
Intelegent wipe (wiper speed goes down a notch under 5 mph) on or off
Programed wash wipe (no program or 2,3 or 4 wipes)
One shot down on or off
One shot up on or off (drivers window only with 4 electric windows)
Lazy vent.

The ‘Silver one’ has no buttons that pop up on the rear doors, but the doors still open from inside and outside. Suits me.

Simply open the doors from inside using the pull, immediately prior to the car being presented for test

As Stocktake points out, the door actuators are a clockmaker's nightmare to repair, and replacement with a serviceable used one is the way forward

My RH rear does this intermittently - but if I give the 'unlock' button an extra push it'll pop up, i.e.
  1. Lock car with remote - all four door buttons drop down
  2. Press unlock on remote - RH front pops up
  3. Press unlock a second time - LH front & LH rear pop up, RH rear stays down
  4. Press unlock a third time - RH rear pops up
That's what it was doing yesterday. Today, both rears pop up at step 3.

I've got speed locking on btw.

I think page 9 (10 in pdf) is the only place the Owner's Handbook mentions the door buttons.

PS. My RH rear has been intermittent for years, which seems to indicate something other than a failing motor.

Come up to the Nano meet weekend 21st & 22nd March John. It'd be great to meet you and you're more than welcome, it's not far from Gloucester.
