Mounting the reversing camera in the octagon

I have the boot lid lip spoiler and the octagon that houses the MG badge looks like the ideal place to hide a reversing camera, If I can ever get the darn thing off to have a look!

Any idea how the badge is held on, is it self adhesive or clipped on?

I want to be able to remove the badge and the octagon it is housed in to see if I can mount the camera within

This all seems to be a bit Chicken and Egg there are two screws that hold the octagon up under the lip but after removing those it is still firmly attached is there another screw in the actual Octagon behind the badge? and if so how does the badge come off?

Next Question I will need a little device to hinge the badge on so that it lifts up when I want to use the Camera so I will need a small motorised actuator, anyone done anything similar?

Or is this all too much like James Bond?

Surely the best place for a reversing cam would be in the very end of the car like the bumper. Would it not be easier to remove a parking sensor? Then you wouldn't have to hinge anything over it, just leave it there all the time looking at what you are reversing into :lol:

Can't help on the octagon I'm afraid - but I am going for a 'key hole' sized camera in the boot keyhole - with a Maplin RF remote to open the boot from the outside withough having to stoop down inside and press the boot button!

I don't have a keyhole in the V8 or parking sensors so I need to drill a fair sized hole in something

The octagon mounting thing is quite deep so would hide a camera nicely without any obvious holes and if angled correctly would give a good rear end view and of course I could always fit the smoke screen and oil slick generator later

Otherwise I will put it in the number plate D so that I can always hide the evidence with a new plate if necessary.

The other reasoning behind hiding it when not in use is to keep it clean and dryish as the back end picks up a lot of splatter and I am pretty sure the Camera I have bought won't have anything complicated like a heater to deal with condensation etc.

I bought the Camera from the same place as DeeCee bought his, I will have to see how his fares in bad weather.

It all sounds very James Bondish Keith - so go for it!

Perhaps you could source an actuator similar to those used in model aircraft to move the bits on the wings (aerolons ??). I'm sure something like that would be perfect for moving the MG badge.

Mounting the camera as high as possible will provide the best overview. So inside the badge should be a good position for that purpose. Although it might be tricky to hide it over there.

So what about a place alongside the number plate lights?
