Why not see if another member who's got one could get a key cut at a local locksmith

Hi Greeners,

I did place an ad in the wanted section but nothing yet.

Sean did manage to get the key from the previous owner but its went AWOL with the Royal Mail.
I'm still hopeful that it'll be delivered but looking at possibly removing the lock barrel altogether as I think it shouldn't affect the towbar itself.

I'm also waiting on a locksmith seeing if he can get a key made from the code I just need to visit him so be can see what key it is.

Well the locksmith wasn't much help.
In fact very unhelpful & uninterested to be honest.

Anyway here's a pic of the number on the towball may help with your search.

Hi Wullie,

I was going through the same process as you last year, however, I have been looking for a replacement barrel that would fit as the previous owner had snapped the key off in the lock.

Have you looked at the idea of getting a replacement barrel? I managed to get mine out as it was only held in place with locktite. The swan neck can still be fitted as long as the catch isn't locked into place. The barrel itself has a small pin at the end that triggers when locked and retorts when unlocked. My search continues for a replacement barrel but if I find one I'll let you know.

All the best.

Cheers for the reply.

Yes I'm now looking into removing the barrels kept hoping Royal Mail would finally deliver the key.

Been looking at over the last few days & did wonder if it would be fine to remove the lock & still use it to tow with.
On the plus side the balls fitted at the moment so once fitted I could use it just wanted a removable one.

What catch are you referring to?

Wullie

Ok lock now removed was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be I'll keep the barrel in case the key turns up.

Ive took a few pics incase any other member has the same issue.

Now to message sean & give him some good news.

Wullie
The catch I was referring to is the spring loaded catch at the top of the swan neck that slots into the bracket.

I have towed our folding camper without the swan neck being locked into place (without barrel) and so far it hasn't come off. I just stuck a little bit of tape into the hole and put a cable tie around it as well as the latch housing which would deter any thief for a small amount of time.

Doesn't take long does it? I had to drill most of mine out unfortunately with the key snapped off in it.

I am sure there must be some kind of barrel lock out there that would do the job - the hunt continues!

I didn't drill mine at all.

I still have the complete lock barrel.
