Default Much faster

AS most of you now know, I decided I could no longer outlay for the sills and any underbody work on my old 1999 75 so let it go (to a buyer who said he would do all the work, so hopefully it will go on)

Anyway I have replaced it with a facelift 2005/2006 75 with under 95k on the clock. . Now, the replacement engine on my old 75 was a 2003 with under 95k. my wifes's 2003 tourer has just over 100k, yet my 2005/6 model seems to have a VERY noticeable increase in acceleration than the other two, almost like a more powerful turbo, ot re-mapping. Also, the rev counter at 70 mph indicated is at least 200 less than the other two cars.

I've driven enough of these to be aware of how they should drive, so my question is, did Rover remap or uprate anything else at factory level.

Don't know if it's relevant as mine is an automatic, it's had a 160 re map with the turbo parameters tweaked, at 70 mph I'm showing 2100 rpm and it will change into 5th at 45 mph don't know if that's normal as it's my first 75.

Paul
Don't think so, story is they were kept a bit asthmatic so as not to compete with the BMW diesels. However, a group of traders here developed a 160 remap which improves the car no end, ups the power from 131 bhp to 160, better torque, better fuel economy etc. Send BigRuss a PM, he may have remapped it or know if its been done through his contacts.

Hi Paul.
Your old car and your wife's does it or did it have the turbo boost sensor inline of the intercooler hose, your latest one should, also the later cars face lift are more responsive off the gas pedal

It could of cause also have had the upgrade, if not it will most certainly be the 131 and not the 115 your old car may have been and your wife's is.

As opposed to the intercooler hose with the boost sensor.

Iirc Big Russ mentioned in a post that the bhp for the diesel is on a sticker on the o/s B pillar, that will tell you what it came from the factory with, mine says 131.

That only applies to the facelift cars it should be on the driver's B pillar. The earlier cars don't have a sticker.

Some unscrupulous used car dealers sometimes remove them if it says 116 PS if they're trying to pass it off as 135 PS

If it's had the official X-power 135 PS upgrade applied to a 116 PS car, then it's on a larger X-power sticker that is normally applied to the passenger side B pillar

It has the same sticker except mine says Classic. If mine is pukka it would explain the noticable improvement in performance. I never notice these things until pointed out to me !!!

Are the wheels the same size on this car , as were on the other vehicles ? Larger diameter at 70 mph would mean lower rpm , i would have thought. Especially if the ecu has not been updated with a new wheel size . Just a thought .

Larger wheels are usually fitted with lower profile tyres, thus resulting in an almost identical wheel/tyre circumfrence... So road speeds for any given rpm should be almost identical. The speedometer would need recalibrating if you fitted oversize higher profile tyres which increased overall wheel/tyre circumference - likewise if you fitted lower profile tyres than recommended for your existing rims...
