Default Gas Conversion Kits

Has anybody else got a V6 with a Landi Renzo Omega Gas Conversion Kit fitted?
I would be interested to learn of any experiences, good or bad.

Yes, I have the Landi-Renzo conversion on my 2.5 V6. Nothing bad to say about it. It's so smooth I can't tell when it changes over automatically, I haven't noticed any drop in performance and it's quiet. The downside is the 90 litre tank in the boot does not leave much space. The car had already been converted when in MGR ownership so I didn't have the option of a doughnut tank but, in any event, I don't like not having a spare wheel on long trips. Also, overall fuel consumption I recently calculated at 22mpg. That was over 300 miles with a good mix of urban and open highway driving.
Although I know cars use more LPG than petrol, but I must say I was disappointed. I think it's hard to justify the added expense of an LPG conversion over a diesel if economy is what you are looking for. Here petrol works better in extreme cold than diesel but nevertheless I think its replacement, whenever it is, will be diesel.

Thanks Tom.
I only ask because mine has popped twice in the last 12 months. It seems that water is mixing with the gas and the solution is to fit a Renault Espace water-pump to take the water away. Apparently this fix has been recommended by ex Rover engineers, so I am confident that it will work.
My V6 is petrol and I use the Shell 'V' unleaded petrol which although about 5p a litre more expensive over here than standard unleaded, does give a better MPG. You also experience a more responsive ride. When running on LPG, yes you are filling it up more often, but overall it is a lot cheaper.

Doug

what do you mean popped?
The only problems I've had with my lpg system were caused by a lack of coolant and a poor regulator.
The more info you give us the better we can help,
When do problems happen, (Is car hot/cold, overheating?)
cheers

Hi Jonathan,

I mean 'popped'. That's the sound it makes before the engine starts to cough and splutter and smell overwhelmingly of gas! When you switch it over to petrol it runs fine.

It's going into the garage on Wednesday for a couple of days to have the Renault Espace water-pump fitted so I should be a lot wiser then. Indeed, I will endeavour to understand the technical details of the problem and the fix and then post it on this site should anybody else have the same or similar problem.

Regards
Doug

The pop and gas smell are clear indiators that the pipe from the "thingamajig" to the engine has blown off. This is normally caused by an incorrectly tightened jubilee clip, poor coolant level (or an air lock) or finally a faulty regulator.
This has happened to me, I actually reconnected the pipe and it worked fine...
will take photos and try and post them.. But I cant seem to get pictures on here..( can you PM me with your email address and I'll send the photos.)

Good luck
Jonathan
PS It IS expensive to convert, but at least you get the creamy V6 warble not the diesel clatter & smoke.. Oh and finally its MUCH more environmentally friendly (lower CO2, NO, particulates etc)

Why do People think the Diesels smoke all the time and are noisy. I disagree with this statement with the BM lump in our Diesels. From inside you wouldn't know it was a Diesel most of the time (except fot the Fuel Consumption readout!)

I have an LPG conversion in my Rover 45 1.6 - but it has a bit of a problem - when it's on the motorway - fine. But whenever the speed is low or revs are low, it splutters and dies all the time. Any ideas guys?

Default Gas Conversion Kits

Well she's gone in today to have the new water pump fitted. Let's hope it does the trick.
I learned something else today, apparently it is recommended that if you have a paintwork repair done to a vehicle it should not be dried in an oven as this will damage the gas system. Recommendation is to have the tank taken out prior to the oven and put back in after the drying process. The system does not fail straight away but some time after. However, a trained specialist can tell if the system has been subjected to too high a heat!
Any comments anybody?

Sounds like bull$**t (sorry GG) to me... the fuel tanks are designed to withstand the temperatures of a major car fire...

PS on a side note, leant my kitcar to a mate on sunday, who then complained of "clonking noises" and 'lack of power' whilst driving.
On investigation I found a hole in the block big enough to put my fist through!
looks like my wonga won't be heading in the direction of a V8 ZTT this year..
