If you read that book "End of the Road" - it becomes even more clear that ROver was a sacrifice to greed

When I was first in the Police the Rover SD1's I drove were great, but The Force slowly changed away from British Models (well Vauxhall senators then Ford Granada Cosworths) later to BMW purely because the First 4 were Free! Rover & Ford would not match deal and they Discounted them also. The rest is History they are still using BMW's now but with no "Special Offers" anymore!
Government & British Police Forces should always have used British Cars, Not many Foreign Police Forces Import or use Foreign Models!

It seems BMW are still proud of 'their' Rover 75, a friend of mine visited their HQ in Germany late last year and they still have the first LHD Cowley model on display alongside a plaque which lists all of it's awards/honours during 1999/2000.

So they should be, It knocks most of their Models for Six.
One of the Reasons they took off the Standard Curtain Airbags. Rover 75/ZT had 5 star award no BMW did so they mad it 4 Star by making curtain Airbags an option otherwise the BMW's all got beaten by the 75/ZT!

Interesting, but I wonder if it's actually true or just another 'BMW bashing' myth similar to the low positioning of the front indicators.

Any chance of the list being emailed to Clarkson, with a challenge to read it out?

I really don't like that bloke, except when he was on Question Time, when he woke up/showed up the politicians!

I work with quite a few ex Rover lads, And 99% are fiercly loyal about the Rover but even they appreciate that in the 70's and 80's everybody was trying to screw each other over, they now realise Bmw had good intentions, and recognised the Rover was a premium brand, The view is they bailed out after much soul searching and realising they were never going to get the profits associated with quality cars, and a relatively small range.

What breaks there hearts though is that when the 75 and the mg zeds came on the scene they thought they had cracked it, they were also of the opinion that the pheonix 4 had the wealth of experience to build on that, After getting it off BMW cheap. Alas it was not to be but as most of them say at least they got another 6 years out off it.

yeah it is very sad story..... imho they didnt have the MG zed's soon enough, if they had had them 10 years earlier, it could have saved MGRover.

what happened to the brand new car they were designing? or is that in annother thread lol
