Spark Plugs
Evening all,
I'm looking for some new spark plugs. On Rimmer bros (same with the oil filter) there are 2 sets. Spark plugs, NLP100290 and NLP100290P. As discussed on the oil filter thread the P more than likely means non-OEM. Can anybody say if the NLP100290P is any good? They're a lot cheaper. Or are there such things as performance spark plugs? If so, how much and where?

Mantianak,
Sorry I can't help you out. However, might I suggest you call Rimmer Bros and ask to speak to Mark in Parts. Most helpful. |

That seems to be a saving of about £10 before P&P compaired with xpart.
I would buy it if I still had the standard filter fitted. SMC is selling induvidual spark plugs http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rover-25-45-75...QQcmdZViewItem It says it for the 1.8 models. Isn't it the same part but more for the KV6 engines? £2.24 Cheaper per plug! Bargain.

My brother-in-law (who works at Gaydon and was on KV6 engine-testing for 4 years or so) tells me that they started using plugs with multiple electrodes for better reliability (e.g. three electrodes per plug instead of one). Like an idiot I didn't ask him what they were called though.

I think most of the bigger spark plug company's NGK and the like are doing Multi Ground Electrode Spark Plugs. There are meant to be alot better.

Why does having more points make it better? Less resistance or more chance of working?

Why have spark plugs with multiple ground electrodes?
Every time the plug sparks, minute particles of material are worn away from the electrodes. This phenomenon is called spark erosion. This continuous process over time increases the spark plug gap between the centre and the ground electrode. This increase is permissible only within certain limits because as the gap increases, the required voltage in order to produce a spark also increases. If the gap becomes too large, misfiring will occur. This will result in reduced engine performance, increased emissions, higher fuel consumption and damage to the catalytic converter. read more here http://www.ngkntk.co.uk/technicaltip...delectrode.asp |
