Changing the Instrument pack will revert to your Previous mileage stored elsewhere, if it is New replacement, otherwise a secondhand one will show the mileage that was on that.
Companies do advertise that they can reset the Mileage and is Legal as long as not done to Defraud or give wrong Impression of Mileage.
I have not heard if these have been sucessfully reset, unless anyone can confirm otherwise.

I have not heard if these have been sucessfully reset, but can not see a reason to do this, Unless changing ECU and Backups etc.
Are you 100% sure on that, I always thought only brand new units would read the mileage from the ECU? But then again what do I know?

Now you have me wondering on my Notes I have Les.
I am now not 100% sure so will try and check up and amend Post as required.
Is there anyone out there with a "Definitive" answer please?
I'm sure Keith may be able to Confirm or pull apart Later.
Don't wish to give out incorrect Information to anyone of course, and this was not my Intention.

Thanks for the reply John. my mileage is 110,000 and would if purchased adjust the new ( 2nd hand ) intrument pack to relect the true mileage.A brand new one at ex dealers prices are cost prohibitive exception being SMC but the ones advertised are the later version with the different illumination.
Cheers Keith

Only a new IPK can be set to read the "correct" mileage. If the donor IPK is second-hand it will read the "old" (donor) mileage - will still countup but will be registering and "error" internally.

"Mileage correction" people say that they can adjust the mileage but I have yet to hear a definite report that it can be done on the 75.

Cheers

Keith, Please see my correction to post and Christopher's reply above.
You would need a new one to show your correct mileage, unless you can have it reprogrammed, but as that is around the £125 mark a new one from SMC seems the best bet.

Thanks both for clarifying the post , i'd like to buy new but the SMC packs for sale are for VIN numbers later than mine ( 02 plate ) and i really don't want to have 2 differing illuminations inside the car .I supose in could fit a second hand pack and record the mileage as i don't intend selling the car for a number of years but it would be nice to have it as near original as possible.

Is yours the highline (with message centre) or lowline pack?

If the lowline, then you have the same situation as me. The SMC ones are listed as for later VINs, but looking on EPC, the previous VIN versions have been supreceded to this part number aynway.

At least that's how I read it, and bought one as a spare for my '00

That looks far to good to break unless there is a lot more wrong with it than the clutch.
Chances are that won't run the distance especially now it is so high profile on here.
