I am told the French are cushioning their energy customers from the sort of bill increases we are facing. It does help that they have a secure nuclear resource for two thirds of electricity and not an over reliance on ‘town’ gas.

We are going to be forced to compromise our drive towards green energy and extract the gas resources we have.

Looks like we're all at sea! The government announced today an investment of £32million in floating offshore wind projects to cut natural gas dependency.
We already have seven out of ten of the biggest offshore wind farms on the planet. https://electrek.co/2022/01/25/briti...as-dependency/

I would say the exact opposite. The sooner we invest in green energy, the sooner we will be less dependent on imported energy in all its forms. Let's face it, the country spent £37bn on an ineffective contact tracing system/operation. Think what it could mean if we spent a similar amount on transitioning to green energy sources.
